Fifth Meal Delivery to our Healthcare Heroes on the Front Line
05 Apr 2020
Good Evening you wild and super generous Friends and Family,
Thanks to your contributions, we made our FIFTH Meal Delivery on Saturday night 4-4-2020 to some more heroes on the Front Line! This time, Nicole and I delivered dinner to a team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. (HUP).
I had connected with a Nurse at HUP for who works the night shift 7pm to 7am. I coordinated with her earlier in the week to make a Dinner Delivery for her and the rest of her team working the night shift on Saturday night. On Saturday afternoon I received a text from my initial point of contact: (intentionally keeping her name anonymous).
Hi John, I just sent u my friends phone #. She is working tonite and will take your call when food arrives. Unfortunately I am out sick waiting for results(crying face). I’m sorry. Thank u again!!! … Thank u so much for doing this for all us healthcare workers! It truly makes us feel like we are all in this together
\ Certainly, this special nurse is in our thoughts and prayers and we will be sure to do another dinner delivery for her when she is back to work and healthy. Wish her all the best!
I am sharing that text message because it only reaffirmed what we are doing is appreciated, but also how much these healthcare workers are risking to save lives. We turn on the news and are bombarded with numbers, statistics, curves, and the TV screen almost looks like a CNBC covering the stock market or ESPN covering the betting lines for sports and you kind of lose the gravity and reality of what is happening. Those numbers, statistics, and curves are about people’s lives. Day in and day out these healthcare workers are risking their lives to treat and care for their patients of COVID19. These are people with their own families, kids, siblings…
We will continue our mission with your support, and I am so thankful to everyone who has contributed, and those who contributed more than once. It is truly appreciated.
Special thank you to George and his team at Fare Restaurant on Fairmount Ave. in Philadelphia for the discounted dinners. Take a look at Fare’s website, and next time you take a trip to the Art Museum, Eastern State Penitentiary, or any time you’re in the city make your way to Fare; it is absolutely delicious. Located across from Eastern State Penitentiary at 2028 Fairmount Ave, they are offering take out as well. http://farerestaurant.com/
Lastly, my old college roommate, AJ, and his family bakery, Isgro’s Pastries located in South Philly baked us some of their famous St. Joseph’s Day cakes, for the healthcare workers as well. Dessert doesn’t get much better than a sugar-dusted zeppoli topped with a cherry from Philadelphia’s best bakery. http://www.bestcannoli.com/Thank you!
All the best to you and yours,\ \ John Holahan

Ps. I appreciate all of the social media shares and contributions, please include the restaurants if you post anything as they are facing trying times as well and appreciate some love. From the latest reports this could go on for a bit longer so I will continue to share updates and drop off lunches/dinners as long as we can. I don’t have any social media with the exception of SnapChat so I will depend on your expertise to get the word out on what we’re doing. Thank you and Keep it up!
