This Weeks Meal Delivery 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 to our Front Line Heroes

11 Apr 2020

First, an update from my last post:

The hero nurse I had referenced in my last update who I had coordinated the meal delivery to the Hospital of Univ. of Pennsylvania had been out awaiting test results from a COVID-19 test: thankfully the results were negative and she has returned to the front lines!\ \ WOW, what a week!\ 5 meal deliveries this week alone…3 different hospitals (CHOP, Temple, and Jefferson)!\ THANK YOU ALL!\ \ Snapshot of the week:\ Tuesday 4/7: Lunch was delivered to the Med/Surg unit at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Dinner was provided for the night shift NICU nurses at CHOP\ Wednesday 4/8: When I arrived to pick up the dinners, I was informed that someone had seen Tela’s Market recent Instagram post about what we’re doing and he wanted to anonymously pay for the next delivery. This anonymous contributor paid for all the dinners to the Cardiac Care Unit at CHOP! It took a while for Nicole to pick her jaw up off the floor, reacting to the kindness and generosity of people. This surprise is further proof of just how good people are and how people want to help. Thank you again to everyone who is continuing to share on social media…\ Thursday 4/9:Yesterday was our largest delivery yet,we provided lunches for the ENTIRE Emergency Room staff at Temple University Hospital.\ Tonight, Friday 4/10: We will go even larger and deliver 70 dinners to the ENTIRE Emergency Room staff at Jefferson University Hospital. This will be our TENTH meal delivery in two weeks since we’ve started…I cannot thank you all enough.\ \ \ Heroes this week:

  • Jenna, a nurse in the Cardiac Care Unit at CHOP, who is pregnant with her first child and working night shifts while helping the kids with heart issues and doing her best to protect herself and her baby
  • Marissa, a nurse in the NICU at CHOP, who wears a mask her entire shift, as the babies on her floor cannot risk being exposed to COVID19
  • Kathleen and her team at the Med/Surg unit at Jefferson: “I’ve been a bedside nurse for 18 years and I’ve never seen or experienced anything like this. It’s such a crazy time where everyone’s anxiety is through the roof…I’ve never worried more than I do now :/ I’m so grateful for my amazing staff who continue to inspire me. We are still caring for our patients like we Always do whether it’s holding a hand, crying, or laughing with them, listening to their stories & heck, we even dance and sing with them :) We are still giving/showing them love at a time when their families/loved ones can’t be present. We will get through this just like we do every other bad situation and we will be better caregivers because of it :) The only thing we can ask for is continued prayers”
  • My little sister, Elizabeth, an incredible ER nurse at Temple…and the reason this all started. I wanted to simply thank her and her team for the amazing work they do. Temple University Hospital has treated the largest number of COVID19 patients out of any hospital in the region.

At every meal delivery, I am reminded of how much these front line heroes deserve fresh and healthy meals. Thank you for all that you do.\ \ How to keep this going:\ With the help from my high school buddy (Thanks, Scott!), we’ve created a website to make these updates easier to share with those who aren’t on the email list. Please share http://johnholahan.org with your friends and family so that we can continue providing meals to these amazing men and women, who have their own children, spouses, friends, etc. All you have to do it type in your name and email, and you’ll automatically be added to my distribution.\ \ And Finally…\ As always, a special thank you to ALL of you–contributors, restaurants, and bakeries. It has been surreal to receive all of the kind text messages, Venmo messages, emails, and letters. The St. Isidore School community–a place my Mom loved and where she loved to work, where Elizabeth and I went to grade school, and where my two nieces and nephew currently attend– have been so supportive.\ \ All the best to you and yours,\ John Holahan\ Venmo: @John-Holahan\ Cell: 267-614-6793\ http://JohnHolahan.org\ \ FYI: Pictures moving forward may not be able to include group shots of all who are receiving meals. Stricter rules within the hospital rooms (even with the heroes on the front lines) are being implemented.\ \ PS:\ \ “I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.” - Abraham Lincoln\ \ Honest Abe also left us with this gem.\ “How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn’t make it a leg.”
